Seeds I have to trade:

  • Most of these seeds were purchased from commercial seed companies 2008-2011, some were garden collected, and a few were wild-collected or from a trade. I've grown out all but a few of these seeds, regardless of the source. You'll receive 20-30 seeds of each species or variety and often more if there are plenty, unless it says "few seeds", then it will be 5-10.

  • All seeds are stored in the refrigerator with the assistance of dessicants to preserve their viability. Although they're not listed here, personally I don't hesitate to use older seeds that are stored properly and routinely germinate seeds that are 10 or 15 years old and even older. For example, the Genovese Basil seeds I've been using for the past 4 years were packed for 1991 (yes they are over 20 years old!), and the parsley was packed for 1998. Herb seeds have been reputed to have a short useful life (1-3 years) but in my experience it is likely much longer if seeds are stored well.

  • FOR SASBE/BEAP OFFER please send the following items:

  • 3) Return address label
  • 4) $2.07 worth of stamps for return postage via First Class package

  • NOTES FOR SASBE/BEAP:
  • If you don't have a bubble envelope, send a total of 5 stamps, and I can provide a bubble envelope to mail the seeds back.
  • If you don't have small seed baggies, send an extra stamp and I can provide baggies. You should still send paper or sticky labels for the seeds, and I will add these to the baggies.

  • If you send only stamps and labels, these items can fit in a regular first class mail envelope for with a 46 cent stamp, which saves on postage.

  • SASBE offer is limited to 12 different types of seeds.

  • TREES/SHRUBS
  • Cladrastis kentukea - Yellowwood (G) 2009 - rare native American tree. Beautiful fragrant blooms. I collected this seed in fall 2009 and am finally winter-sowing them this year! This is mostly because the large tree in my yard has self-sowed a couple dozen seedlings since the Norway maples crowding around the tree were removed in 2007.

  • I have not sown the following trees & shrubs; either because they are not native to North America or because they are not hardy to zone 5. (Plus, I've already sown about 20 different trees and shrubs this winter!! Yikes!)
  • These seeds were received from a friend, collected at the Arnold Arboretum in Boston, Mass. All have been stored "wet" and have been cold-stratifying in plastic baggies in the refrigerator all winter. They are ready to sow!

  • You are welcome to try these! However, please send an extra stamp as these require special packing and may add extra weight to the package.

  • Callicarpa dichotoma - Asian beautyberry - this one has White berries
  • Clerodendrum trichotomum - Glorybower - large Asian shrub, fragrant flowers, good fall color
